This article is about a beautiful day trip in Berkshire.

Comprising of thousands of acres of stunning natural parkland – The Saville Garden, The Valley Gardens and Virginia Water Lake make up The Royal Landscape in the south-east corner of Windsor Great Park in Berkshire.

To even claim to have explored a smidgen of this huge outdoor space, I would be lying… We have taken a turn around Virgina Lake itself a few times over the years but the area definitely deserves more of our attention.

On a recent trip on a gloriously sunny day, we packed a picnic and met our friends at The Saville Garden’s entrance to the The Royal Landscape. Although Saville holds the title of Britain’s finest ornamental gardens (family tickets £25.00), we decided that this day trip was all about enjoying the public areas and letting the kids roam free. Our friends suggested this section of the Landscape as it has a children’s play area with a shipwreck and sand pit, and is a short walk to the picnic tables on Obelisk Lawn, as well as being close to the restaurant, baby changing facilities and toilets.
