At Easter we spent a week at Duinrell Campsite in Wassenaar which is one of Eurocamp’s closest sites to Amsterdam and The Hague in the Netherlands.

We spent quite a bit of time working out what things we wanted to do when we stayed at Duinrell Campsite, so whilst we didn’t do everything on this list – we thought we’d compile a list of things to do at Duinrell Campsite to help you if you were going to stay there too.

We stayed with Eurocamp at Duinrell Campsite in the Netherlands.

1. Theme Park

This is the reason to go to Duinrell, its one of THE best things to do at Duinrell Campsite.

2. Tiki Pool

  • A huge waterslide paradise
  • 21 indoor and outdoor waterslides for young and old
  • For daredevils, fast slides in all shapes and sizes
  • For the little ones: kids water park Playa
  • New: outdoor pool with 5 family slides and a water playhouse (Summer months)

3. Bike Riding at Duinrell

Take your bikes with you if you can. Biking is definitely the activity that the kids LOVED the most and that they still talk about when we talk about the site. The site is huge and it’s a fab FREE activity. If you don’t manage to take your own bike then it’s easy to hire a bike at Duinrell Campsite.

In our experience everyone was really considerate when driving round the site so you didn’t need to worry too much about the kids.

Prices to hire a bike at Duinrell Campsite

If you hire a bike or a go kart at Duinrell Campsite for 7 days you only pay for 5 days.

The opening time for the bike shop at Duinrell Campsire are also below. It would have been slightly more helpful if the shop had opened at 9 as the staff were actually around.

4. Go Karts at Duinrell Campsite

My three loved hiring their go karts for the day. They are given a lock when they pick them up and they really enjoyed racing each other around the site. We only hired for the day but were given the option to take them back for 3.30pm, or keep them overnight and return at 8.30am when they opened for returns the next day. We took them back the next day.

5. Watchtower

From the top of the Watchtower at Duinrell Campsite you’ll have a 360 degree view of the site and beyond.

6. Mini Golf

The mini golf course is situated behind the Aqua scooters – Botsboten and consists of eighteen holes. For € 1,50 you borrow a golf club and golf ball. Naturally you’ll also receive a pencil and form to keep your score.

7. Rowing Boats at Duinrell Campsite

10 boats, 2 people in each. Closed in winter (Nov-Mar).

8. Summer Show

A magic show in which everything goes wrong. Scott and Muriel take you on a roller coaster ride of slapstick, magic and non-stop fun, from start to finish. It will have you all in stitches!

From 16 July – 28 August 2022, Scott & Muriel’s show can be seen three times a day in the Summer Theatre.

Show times: 1 p.m., 2.30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Duration: 30 minutes.

9. Table Tennis

There are four table tennis tables on the terrace of Duinrell Campsite Plaza. You need to bring your own table tennis equipment but if you’ve got that with you it’s FREE.

10. Wassenaarse Slag

If you ignore the name (either of its two English meanings) and visit Wassenaarse Slag you’ll find a beautiful unspoilt 8km long beach, with some fantastic restaurants. It’s also only 4km away from Duinrell Campsite meaning you can drive, cycle or even walk there easily.

11. Scheveningen Beach

A bustling beach whatever the season. This beach is about 12 kilometres from Duinrell. Here you will find a long sandy beach, many beach bars, a boulevard with nice restaurants and lovely shops. You’ll also find SEA LIFE, where you can walk ‘under’ water, see sharks, beautiful fish and other water creatures. On De Pier, you’ll find a 45 meter high watchtower. You can also go bungee jumping or fly off the zipline!

12. Katwijk Beach

Katwijk beach feels very characteristically, Dutch and doesn’t attract the crowds like Scheveningen. Katwijk is about 8 kilometres from Duinrell. In front of the beach is the village centre with cosy shops and eateries. At Katwijk you’ll find the white lighthouse: the Vuurbaak. You can’t miss this one. In the summer you can even climb it if you like. In the summer you will find many cosy beach pavilions on the sandy beach. They are fun to end your day in at the beach with something nice to eat or drink.

13. Noordwijk Beach

This is the beach if you want trendy beach bars? Noordwijk aan Zee, is about 14 kilometres from Duinrell Campsite. There are several beaches: the beaches on the north and south boulevards and the Duindamse- and Langevelderslag, which are in the direction of Zandvoort. The other two beaches are harder to get to and can only be reached by walking or cycling through the dunes.

14. Wassenaar

A five minute walk from Duinrell Campsite. The town centre of Wassenaar has some gorgeous restaurants and beautiful shops, together with a fantastic ice cream shop. The town felt safe enough for our ten and eleven year olds to wander up into the shop early evening and buy an ice cream too. We had 2 meals out in Wassenaar during our weeks stay at Duinrell Campsite and quote a lot of ice cream.

We ate dinner at Bida Baai on the beach twice as they sold a variety of food to suit all, and we loved the view.

15. Keukenhof Tulip Gardens

Keukenhof Tulip Gardens is only open during the Spring months and so we timed our trip to Duinrell Campsite to coincide with the opening times for 2022. Keukenhof Tulip Gardens will be open from 23 March – 14 May in 2023.

Initially I thought Keukenhof Tulip Gardens would be only fun for me, and I didn’t think the girls would really enjoy it, but it appears that the tulip gardens are actually fun for kids who want to be instagram sensations/tik tok stars too, and they loved taking pics and seeing all the different colour tulips.

16. Amsterdam

A destination in itself, a place I’ve been on city breaks before but never with the kids. Amsterdam is only 25 minutes from Duinrell Campsite and it was really easy to get in. I’d leave the car out of Amsterdam though, it’s definitely a city for bikes and boats.

We visited the Anne Frank Museum, hired an electric boat to tour round the canals, ate a lot and walked everywhere.

17. The Haugue

A day out in The Hague means choosing from a whole range of visitor attractions. Visit the renowned Binnenhof, meet The Hague’s most famous girl in the Mauritshuis, sail by boat through the city’s canals or enjoy a relaxing day on the beach of Scheveningen (see above). The Hague’s city centre is also perfect for a spot of shopping, with the shops in the historic centre open seven days a week.

18. Leiden

Leiden is an historic small city situated about 35km south-west of Amsterdam. With its picturesque canals and narrow streets, some fine museums and good shopping. You can get the bus easily to Leiden from Duinrell Campsite.

19. Park Run

If you’re a parkrun fan you can do some parkrun tourism while staying at Duinrell Campsite. There is a very popular parkrun in The Hague, and a smaller one in Kagerzoom which we did when we visited. It’s a lovely flat course with a lake and a windmill en route too.

20. Youseum

Youseum is located in Westfield Mall of the Netherlands in Leidschendam. It’s a 5 minute drive from Duinrell Campsite. You can park your car for free.

Pose, play, & explore along an hour-long tour through 30 eye-catching installations. At Youseum, you are the artwork, the artist, & the critic. My three girls LOVED it. There is one in Amsterdam too.
