As the largest town in Cheshire situated between Liverpool and Manchester, Warrington offers a great deal of family-friendly activities and locations for days out. With beautiful nature, educational exhibitions and theme parks suitable for the kids, there is plenty to do, so here’s our top 10 Things to do in Warrington with kids:

1. Walton Hall and Gardens – Things to do in Warrington

With woodland and orchard walks, flower beds, a picturesque pond and beautiful grounds, Walton Hall and Gardens is perfect for a sunny day. As the former home and gardens of Lord and Lady Daresbury, this area is steeped in local history and is great for a day out with your family, there is even a Children’s Zoo! The venue also hosts events such as a film festival, wedding receptions and something particularly fun- a ‘Walk an Alpaca’ day.

2. Lymm Dam – Things to do in Warrington

For tranquil things to do in Warrington, the Lymm Dam is a great option, with construction of the dam resulting in valley flooding and the creation of a lake, the area and surrounding woodland are now a country park which is very popular with families and dog walkers. If you are interested in wildlife, you’re in luck as the woods are home to many birds and squirrels and on the water you will see ducks and swans. There are paths which run right around the lake and facilities include picnic tables, benches and panels with information surrounding the history of the dam.

3. Wild Wings Birds of Prey Centre – Things to do in Warrington

Wild Wings Birds of Prey is a registered not for profit organisation which provides a rescue, conservation and education centre for birds of prey. The centre is run by a small group of volunteers who rescue wild and captive bred birds which are often lost by owners or at times, deliberately released. The centre is based in Risley and is home to many species such as owls, hawks, eagles, falcons and even a family of ferrets and raccoons. 4. Gulliver’s World – Warrington with Kids

If you’re looking for a full on, fun filled day out with the children, Gulliver’s World Resort is the place to visit. This theme park has so many attractions and activities, from roller coasters, dodgems, high slides and carousels, to climbing walls, play areas, mazes and crazy golf, your children are sure to love it here. There are lots of facilities too and you can also have a short break away as the resort provides accommodation in the form of a hotel or lodges which you can book here. 5. Warrington Museum and Art Gallery

This museum and art gallery is situated in a Grade II listed building and is one of the oldest museums in England. The space not only hosts several exhibitions which boast fantastic artefacts, paintings and models, but a Searchroom where the public can book an appointment to explore Archives and local history. With over 10 galleries and workshops which are offered to pupils from local schools, this is a great place to learn and be entertained.

6. TeamSport Indoor Go Karting

As the UK’s largest purpose-built indoor go karting track, this features a 1000m international circuit with 35 bends and a Monaco-style tunnel. The track is split over three levels and is perfect for both beginners and those with a little more experience, however children have to be 8+ years of age to join in. There is also a seated area to grab food or drinks and a bar for the adults if you fancy a glass of wine or maybe a good old pint.

7. Museum of Policing in Cheshire

This museum preserves and researches the heritage of policing in the county of Cheshire and offers exhibits which were originally displayed in Crewe but since that centre closed in 2004, have been moved to Warrington. The main aim of the museum is to “advance the public knowledge of the evolution, development and role of policing”. Entering through a Tardis and greeted by a 1900’s police officer on a Victorian street scene, this museum takes you through time and entry is free of charge.

8. Warrington Market

This multi-award winning market features more than 50 independent traders, selling everything from fresh food and drinks, to gifts, goods and services. A two-storey building bordered by Bridge Street on one side and the new Times Square public space on the other, the market sells all kinds of tasty food including cheese, pies, fruit, veg, meat and fish, cakes and sweets, but also jewellery, fabric, handbags, clothes, makeup and household items.

9. Sandy Lane Farm/The Haycroft

A family-run working farm, Sandy Lane is perfect for a Sunday family trip out. With a coffee shop, team room and ice cream parlour, it is a great place to unwind. The farm also hosts events such as pumpkin picking for Halloween and a Santa’s Grotto in the lead up to Christmas. There are plenty of animals to spot too, including pigs, ponies, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats and ducks and the farm also offers a seasonal maize maze and tractor rides.

10. Apple Jacks Adventure Farm

Open on weekends and school holidays, this farm is fab for a fun day out with your children. There are so many activities and so much entertainment, including quad karts, racing zip wires, a skate park, an obstacle course, swings and a sand pit. There are also outdoor and indoor stages where shows such as mini discos and an adventure hay ride are put on. The farm stipulates that small sandwich packs are allowed but due to litter, picnics are not, however there is a grill restaurant which serves hot food and drinks.
