Now it may not seem the obvious place to go on a cold winters day, but as the Ice Cream Farm has recently been completely renovated and now contains indoor areas too, I thought it might be a good place to meet my parents on a cold day in January.
When we left home it didn’t actually seem that cold but we arrived to a freezing cold Ice Cream Farm where there didn’t seem to be anything to stop the chilly winds blowing across the fields. It’s aparently quite flat and open out there on the Cheshire plains.
Anyway less of the negative comments about the weather, what do they say ‘No bad weather just the wrong clothes’.
If you are heading over there on a wet or cold day here are some tips:
1. There are two indoor places to play so don’t let the bad weather put you off going.
2. The soft play part isn’t super exciting, but it definitely keep kids up to 5 (at least) busy for an hour or so. A session in here will cost you £3.50 or less depending on the play pass you buy (more on play pass later).
3. There is a very large indoor play area with water, sand pits, claiming frames, walkways and more water. If it is pouring down this is a great place to spend a hour or so.
4. Whilst dry, the large indoor play area will be as cold as it is outside. You might want to take wellies rather than let them run around in bare feet like mine did. They get cold, very very cold. I ended up keeping my coat, hat and gloves on.
5. Take a towel or a spare set of clothes depending on how likely your kids are to end up sat in the water. Thankfully I took a towel and the parents of the little boy who sat in the water had taken spare clothes. Good parenting for all of us around that.
6. The large playground outside is free, as is the farm. You will however never get away with not spending any money (as there is Ice Cream to be bought!)
7. If you are visiting with other people and their kids, consider buying a higher value play pass for you all to share. The more money you put on the play pass, the cheaper your soft play/mini golf/indoor play session will be. Spend £100 and your session will only be £1, spend £20 and it will be £2.50, £10 and it will be £3. The play pass does not run out and is not limited to one family.
8. You have to have an Ice Cream; the sticky toffee pudding one is in my (humble) opinion, amazing. They will also let you have a little taste of a flavour if you aren’t sure.
9. They do kiddy sized teddy ice cream cones behind the counter. £1.50 rather than £2. They aren’t on the signs yet but do ask.
10. They ask you not to take a picnic. We always take drinks and little snacks, but did partake in lunch in the Pantry and the jacket potatoes are huge.
NB: We paid for our visit to the Ice Cream Farm and did not receive any contribution to this post. I simply blogged about it because we enjoyed it.
Why not PIN this
What a great day out and on a freezing cold day too!!
Looks fun!Soft play and ice cream..what’s not to love? My boy would definitely end up being sat in the water, well done for remembering a towel!xx #whatevertheweather
Wow what a great place to go even in winter! It’s fab that they have two indoor areas to play! It looks like a lot of fun and the ice cream sounds absolutely delicious! Great tips about taking a towel or spare clothes too. I need to remember this for our days out in general. Evie always seems to end up wet or messy. Thank you so much for linking your adventures to #whatevertheweather xx
The indoor soft play area looks fantastic, my boys love that sort of thing. We have a much smaller scale indoor area like that nearby and it’s absolutely freezing in winter so we always keep all clothes on and put on extra socks for the boys as they aren’t allowed shoes on the play equipment. The ice cream look delicious too, love that they have kiddy sized ones too.
Thanks so much for linking up to #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x
Thanks for sharing these tips – you’ve probably saved my sanity hahaha. (Water in a freezing cold barn + a special needs child with a water obsession would surely have ended in hyperthermia) spare clothes and lots of layers will be taken with us when we visit hehe xx
