There are so many amazing picture books being published at the moment it was hard to pick just ten. So I didn’t! There are actually eleven beautiful, brilliant picture books on this list. Do keep an eye on twitter for a chance to win a copy of one of them.

The Dragon Who Didn’t Like Fire by Gemma Merino (Macmillan)

My son adores this captivating story about a baby dragon who doesn’t act like all the other baby dragons. It’s a charming story about acceptance and learning to be yourself.

I Love My Bike by Simone Mole, illustrated by Sam Usher (Frances Lincoln)

Written by an acclaimed poet, this lyrical story is wonderful to read aloud as the rhythm mimics the highs and lows of the little girl in the story who is learning to ride her bike.

Ergo by Alexis Deacon, illustrated by Viviane Schwarz (Walker Books)

Ergo the chick wakes up and slowly discovers her world, but when something moves outside it, will she be brave enough to discover what’s on the other side?

Time To Move South For Winter by Clare Helen Welsh, illustrated by Jenny Lovlie (Nosy Crow)

This is a gorgeous story with stunning illustrations about a little tern who makes a big journey when winter draws near.

My Beautiful Voice by Joseph Coelho, illustrated by Allison Colpoys (Frances Lincoln)

I adore this story about a young boy who slowly finds his voice and the courage to stand up and be heard. My Beautiful Voice has vibrant illustrations and a powerful message.

Stella and the Seagull by Georgina Stevens and Izzy Burton (Oxford Childrens)

Stella is upset when her seagull friend gets poorly after eating plastic on the beach so she decides to do something to make a difference. This is an empowering story with an important message.

Sometimes I am Furious by Timothy Knapman and Joe Berger (Macmillan)

This is a very relatable story about a little girl who is kind and funny, but also sometimes feels furious!

How to Grow A Unicorn by Rachel Morrisroe and Steven Lenton (Puffin Books)

Sarah decides to buy a present for her Gran, but the Unicorn Seeds she chooses have unexpected results. A fun story for all unicorn fans.

Hey You! An Empowering Celebration of Growing Up Black by Dapo Adeola and other illustrators (Puffin Books)

Created by a collection of talented Black illustrators, this is an inspiring story, full of hope and positivity, that celebrates Black talent.

The Wide, Wide Sea by Anna Wilson & Jenny Lovlie (Nosy Crow)

This is a gorgeous story about a little girl who falls in love with the sea and a seal. But when a big storm hits and her seal swims away, she worries that she might never see him again.

Tilda Tries Again by Tom Percival (Bloomsbury)

When Tilda starts to find things harder than she used to do, it feels easier to just stop trying.

But then she is inspired to be brave and slowly discovers the confidence to believe in herself again.
