Whenever we travel I always take with us travel snacks in my suitcase so if we are leaving early, or if we arrive late somewhere, there’s always something to hand. The snacks aren’t always healthy but let’s be honest they are a good distraction on long car journeys, the plane, train or ferry, and good for an energy boost when you’re on the go.
When travelling you need snacks that won’t melt, go off or take too much of a beating in the suitcase. Our favourite snacks are popcorn, raisins, cereal bars but these same old things are getting a little boring now. So we asked our Mini Travellers community for some more ideas and here’s what you came up with!
Travel Snacks for Kids
- Cereal bars
- Tubs of cereal/fun size packs of cereal
- Granola bars
- Quaker Porridge Bars
- Belvita Breakfast Biscuits
- Rice Crispie bars
- Brioche rolls
- Crepes (shop-bought, individually wrapped )
- Waffles (shop-bought, individually wrapped)
- Scotch pancakes
- Soreen malt loaf minis
- Flap jack – find our recipe for homemade flapjack here.
- Raisins and other dried fruit

- Fruit crisps e.g. banana chips
- Nuts (remember they are not allowed on planes though). One of our readers gave us a top tip that Sainsbury’s do cashew pieces – cheaper and already broken up to reduce choking risk!
- Bread sticks
- Crisps
- Mini cheddars
- Pepperami minis
- Fun size bags of biscuits
- Salted crackers/Ritz crackers
- Popcorn

- Pretzels
If you’ve got a cool bag to hand you could also consider these suggestions:
- Sandwiches
- Hummus or cream cheese with bread sticks or veggie sticks.
- Mini sausages or sausage rolls
- Babybel
- Fruit
- Yoghurts
What great suggestions. I’d not take them all or there’ll be no room for anything else!!
