We recently had a Monday to Friday getaway to a tree house lodge with Forest Holidays. Ever the intrepid explorers we ventured all the way to Thorpe Forest, which is a grand total of 40 minutes from our house! We thought about going to one of their other locations around the UK but to be honest when you’re in a bloody forest you could be anywhere and unless they could guarantee that Robin Hood was going to pop up at the Sherwood Forest location then I wasn’t fussed about going. There are however 9 locations in total around the UK if you feel like it could be a holiday choice for you.
We stayed at the Golden Oak treehouse that sleeps up to 10 people within its 5 bedrooms. We were holidaying with family so it was great to spread the cost of the stay between us. There are other accommodation options for smaller groups but it works out a lot more money per person. If you can scrabble together a group of you it makes it a cheaper holiday all together.
The main lodge has 4 bedrooms and nestled in the trees behind is the pièce de résistance…the treehouse.
The treehouse room is accessed via the back porch area and over a low walkway bridge, which is illuminated by small LED lighting. It has its own bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities.
We decided not to stay in the tree house room in favour of the master bedroom in the main house. As we were travelling with our 1 year-old we didn’t feel comfortable with putting her to bed in a room which could be accessed separately from outside and then heading back into the house to crack open the gin. I actually also preferred the view from our master bedroom anyway. It had a floor to ceiling window, which looked out into the forest. We took it in turns to have a lay in and sit with a cuppa and watch the wildlife each morning.

That look’s really fun. My 6yo and my 17yo would love that. Might have to pay a visit to the website x
Very fun review! Quite agree on a forest being a forest. Still a shame that you couldn’t ask for Robin Hood in person:) The bed looks very cool. I would down for a few days at this place with my girls.
There is something about the thought of stayingin a treehouse that really does bring out the child in me! Something akin to pretending I’m one of the Famous Five, perhaps. Albeit a little older…
