Sharing is caring!

On Friday I terrified myself and went to do the Treetop Adventure at Go Ape in Delamere Forest.  To be honest until the night before I hadn’t really considered whether I would like it or not.  Go Ape suggested we went along, so I just said yes that would be lovely and didn’t really think it through. I just gathered some other bloggers together, Sarah from Extraordinary Chaos, Ally from Messed up Mum, Tanya of Muma Leary and Laura from Tired Mummy of Two and we went down to Delamere for some Me Time.

It was a dry day thankfully but when I picked up Ally and Tanya we did consider what on earth we were doing. Surely a walk around the woods or the Segway tour would have been better!  Why did I pick the Treetop Adventure.

We were booked onto the 11am session so met up about 10.30 for a coffee in the cafe at Delamere. There is no on site parking for Go Ape so you need to park in the main car park at Delamere which costs £6 for over 3 hours.  The machines always seem to be broken too so you need cash!  I’m not sure that coffee did much for my nerves as as we wandered over I was starting to get pretty terrified.

Shortly before 11am we met the rest of our group and started the safety briefing. This was the first time I realised that I would actually be responsible for my own safety up in the trees and that there would be no safety nets underneath me if I got it wrong!  OMG. What was I doing?!? The look of terror on my face was perfectly apparent. Ally definitely felt the same. Was it too late to change to  the segways. Why didn’t I book the segways.

Thankfully we moved from the safety briefing to the low training wires.  If you fell off this you would have been fine. This gave us a good opportunity to try out all the clips on the safety harness and work out how to work the zip wire and the nets!  You can see from this video how high the training wire was!

The next course felt a lot higher.  I really did get the jitters when I climbed up the wobbly rope ladder to get to the first wire.  Laura kept checking back at me to see if I was OK, as I really didn’t look fine., and I actually wasn’t sure I was!

I found the rope ladders and moving the clips really tricky but I LOVED the zip wire bit even if I did scream quite a lot. Thankfully I don’t think there are any videos of me!

There were 5 courses in all and each one got higher and trickier. We did’t actually manage the last one as we ran out of time and had to get back for the school pick up. That’s my excuse for not doing the last one anyway and I’m sticking with that. I don’t think I look too scared on this photo, but I definitely was!

The last zip wire we did was really really high.  This is Tanya!

Terror and panic aside, we really did have a good day. Go Ape is definitely one of those days out that you enjoy more when you have finished and feel a real sense of achievement.

So would I recommend it? Yes I would. If you fancy a day out doing something different then this definitely ticks that box. The Treetop Adventure we took part in would have been £31 but the kind people at Go Ape invited us. Sarah and I have just launched a new section on our blogs called Me Time, so we are going to be trying quite a few different activities over the next few months. Hopefully some of you will get involved too!

  1. You don’t look scared at all in your photo Karen, well done you for doing it as I would be the same. I like to think I could do it but when I actually got there it would be a different story! Looks like such a great day out though and you must have felt like you’d really achieved something afterwards. My husband has done it at Delamere and couldn’t move his arms the next day 🙂

  2. Eek! You look like you’re having a great time in the pictures! I really enjoyed myself when I went here last – the last bit on the zip wire was great…. I struggled with the rope ladders.
Did you get a certificate and bumper sticker?! Hang them with pride! You did it! 😀

  4. This looks awesome. But I am sure that I would have been completely terrified too. The pictures are great and those videos of Tanya and Ally on the zip wires are brilliant. There should have been a video of you lovely Karen. Next time please! Hugs Mrs H xxxx
