This is a review, or perhaps it’s fairer to say a gushing love story about a long weekend I spent at Villa Le Capanne in Tuscany, on a trip put together by Bookings for You and the Giovanni Family where we visited as their guests.
Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne or Villa Le Capanne is a 100+ year old farmhouse that was purchased by the Giovanni family and renovated in 2014. It is a Rustic, Country Chic Style Villa located close to what is arguably one of Italy’s most historical and prominent cities: Volterra. Well everyone from Volterra will tell you it is the most historical and prominent city, people from Siena will tell you it is, and Florence and Rome the same, but to be honest I love all the Italian towns and cities so I’m not going to dispute anyones claim to the title.
Villa Le Capanne itself is a stunning villa sleeping 22 people across nine bedrooms. Seven bedrooms are located in the main house and two bedrooms are private suites with their own private exterior entrance, yet accessible from the house through a small exterior staircase. Each bedroom has its own private door that locks and is also en-suite. There are white crisp linen sheets and comfortable beds with shutters on the window to ensure the sun stays out until you want to wake up and start the day. Each individual room in the house is unique and has it’s own warm and welcoming style, whilst contributing to the overall feeling of the villa. It’s difficult to describe what that feeling is, but from the moment you get there, to the moment you leave, you will feel like you are in a welcoming Italian home, particularly if you choose to take advantage of the spectacular hospitality of the Giovanni family.
Speaking of hospitality when you stay at Villa Le Capanne you can opt to book on a straight forward self catering basis, however if you do that I would suggest that you would miss out on some quite incredible treats. Even if you want to cater yourself for most of the week I ‘d suggest trying out at least one of the amazing dinner packages, or maybe brunch, oh heck why not go for it all. Top Tip: You want the wonderful Fabiloa pictured below to cook for you!!
We were lucky enough to experience three separate dinner packages in the evenings whilst at Villa Le Capanne. The Welcome Dinner, the Tuscan Momma dinner and the Pizza Party too. We also experienced three different types breakfast over the three days, including a very large brunch. During our stay we ate more food than I thought possible and drank perfectly paired wines with each dinner. The food served ranged from fresh mozzarella and tomato, to a Tomato soup (that both Ting and I vowed to make at home despite knowing that it will never be as good) to roasted pork and wild boar and biscotti tiramisu. The pizza party on the last night with never ending pizza from the pizza oven on the terrace, and free flowing prosecco meant that the party went on well into the evening ending with some fabulous dancing until 2am. It really is the perfect party venue.
Whilst we visited Villa La Capanne in March and the weather was at times a little unkind, it didn’t take much to imagine the sunsets the Summer months would bring, and it was easy to imagine lazy days taking in the 360 degree panoramic views, from the Villa Le Capanne terrace as it was simply exquisite.
Some of the photos that myself and some of the rest of the ladies that stayed at Villa Le Capanne over the weekend will give you some of the idea of the quality of this villa, however I can’t stress enough that it really is the quality of the hospitality combined with the setting that makes Villa Le Capanne so special.
Villa Le Capanne and the Giovanni family specialise in large-scale weddings and you can see by the quality accommodation on offer and the beautiful grounds just how amazing it would be to get married there. It almost makes me want to get married again; but perhaps that’s a little too extreme. So instead I’ll settle for a return trip with some friends and family – whose coming with me?!?!
