This review by the lovely Jess is about her holiday near Stratford with her husband and two year old twins. Jess writes a very good blog over at Mummyofboygirltwins.com and she can regularly be found tweeting @soot1978

We have just returned from a week’s holiday in a cottage near Stratford. Neither Hubby (Dave) nor I had really been to that part of the UK before, but had always wanted to. It was our two-year-old twins first time too!

I had some nerves. Leading up to the break the twins entered the terrible two’s phase (I’m hoping its a phase!). “Great, let’s destroy someone else’s home” I thought. But thankfully, they proved me wrong. And as the sun was shining for the whole week (I know, how lucky is that?) it all made for a superb family holiday.

Hubby found the 2-bed cottage on the Internet. Set on a farm, in a quiet location, the owner Amanda was so welcoming and friendly.  It was the perfect location for us, handy for Warwick, Stratford and the heart of the Cotswold’s; there was so much for us to do. The chickens and geese kept Harry and Lottie (our twins) amused for most of the week and the garden was ideal for them to play in.

1. THOMAS LAND, DRAYTON MANOR

The only word that I can use to describe this place, for our twins, is FANTASTIC. They were so well behaved. I was almost having palpitations before we arrived about them running off or having tantrums the whole day – but they were brilliant! We went the week after the schools went back so there were literally no queues and the park was very quiet. Although it is pricey (very), we got 2-4-1 tickets for the park through Vouchercloud. However it was such a great day, one that we laughed and smiled throughout (even Dave and I!) that it was totally worth it.

  1. LEAMINGTON SPA

Such a cool, trendy place yet with historic buildings and impressive architecture. Leamington really won us over. The large central park too is fantastic for young children. We walked around (on a hot September day) and the twins fed the ducks. There was a food festival on, so we got some real lemonade and snacks and sat on the grass – people watching.

  1. RUNNING THROUGH FIELDS TOGETHER

Although it sounds cheesy, there were some moments of utter bliss; family time that you just don’t get at home. Next to the farm we were staying on, was a large open field, owned by Amanda and Roy and they said we could take the children in. And they loved it. Running around, holding hands, giggling. It was so special.

  1. AND THEN ALL THE REST…

We also visited a nearby horse sanctuary and stroked the donkeys and ponies. One day we went to the Moreton in Marsh show, and we watched the dog shows and Harry rode in a fire engine! We also popped into Stratford and had a Shakespeare culture tour via an open top bus (although *note to self* twins don’t like sitting on a bus for long!). And lots and lots of other days out too.

And now we are home. Back with a large washing pile, chores to do and back to the daily grind. However, Stratford, we loved you and thanks so much for the wonderful family memories.
