There is so much going at Christmas in Southport from visiting one of Southport’s best tearooms or coffee shops, taking in one of the spectacular Winter Light Trail Events or visiting Santa.

Our festive day (during Storm Arwen!) included blowing away the cobwebs and following the map (free from The Atkinson Southport ) to follow the Trail of the Trees lighting up the town. This was a really nice free activity and easy to do if you’re just popping into town for the shops too.

We also visited the Luminate Light Trail in Victoria Park. Over the years we’ve visited many light trails but none quite as interactive as this one! Inspired by the lights, ‘Do you believe in magic?’ became the kid’s conversation topic all the way round!

The trail allowed them to use their imagination and see the magic in each of the displays, from the tiniest fairies hanging in trees to making their own wishes to hang up and playing their own made up game of the ‘floor is lava’ in the dome. It certainly captured their imagination.

Midway through we stopped off to toast our own marshmallows, you can bring your own or purchase them there for a small cost. The trail runs everyday now through until the 23rd Dec from 4.30-8.30pm  making it a perfect after school adventure and a beautiful place to visit  to bring some light into these long winter nights!

Between adventures we were hosted by The Vincent Hotel to warm up with a hot chocolate and amazing s’mores boards! The kids were in their element! They have always been one of my favourite desserts but even more special on a cold and blustery day celebrating Christmas in Southport.
