You might think that Eurocamp is one of those holidays where everyone takes a car. Well, it might surprise you to find that that is not actually true. Whilst the majority of Eurocamp customers will take their own car, or hire one, some families will do their whole Eurocamp holiday car-free!

Why, might you ask, would a family not want to take their car? Sometimes a long journey to a holiday destination, particularly with children, is stressful. This is even more so if the bulk of the driving falls on one person. Flying to your destination can be much more appealing for families. There are also some holidays where not having a car is actually better. For example city breaks where public transport is good, traffic is bad and parking is terrible! You may also decide there is no need for a car if all you want to do is go to the beach that is next door to the campsite.

So having sown the seed in your head that Eurocamp holidays are do-able without a car, which destinations would people recommend for this type of holiday? We’ve asked around so let’s explore some of the most popular opinions…

France

La Croix du Vieux Pont Campsite, Berny-Rivière, Paris

• Swim in the beachside lagoon lake on parc
• Perfect for taking a day trip to magical Disneyland

“We’ve just been to a Eurocamp in France (La croix du vieux pont), and didn’t need to leave the site the whole time! It had everything we needed: supermarket, bakery, 3 swimming pools, beach, lake, activities (pedalos, mini golf, bicycles, trampolining,bowling, soft play) bars, restaurant, takeaway. They also did organised coach trips to Disney if you wanted a day out (we didn’t this time as we had plenty to do in the 6 days we were there).”

Holland

Duinrell Campsite, Wassenaar

• Free theme park within the parc’s grounds
• Hop on bikes and follow one of the great cycling routes nearby

Duinrell has 1 km of covered waterslides!  It’s a theme park offering white knuckle thrills for older kids as well as gentler pursuits for little ones. Best of all, rides in the amusement park are free to Eurocamp customers. There’s also a fantastic beach nearby and Amsterdam is just 40 minutes drive away! Pre-book transfers from the airport. It usually takes about 40 mins and cost around 55 euros each way. Buses go right past entrance.

Italy

Bella Italia Campsite, Peschiera, Italian Lakes

• Fabulous pool complex with kids’ and lagoon pools
• Head out and about to discover Verona, Milan and Venice

When we asked people which sites are good without a car, this site was hands down the most popular vote. Popular comments are that it is a great site with loads to do. The bus from Bergamo airport to Milan central station goes every half hour then take the train to Peschiera (close to the site) which takes about an hour and 20 mins from memory. Peschiera station has taxis outside for about €10 or the bus which stops on the main road is about the same for a family of 4 and takes literally moments to get there.

Marina di Venezia , Venice

• Hire bikes and explore the surrounding woodland
• Hop on the ferry at the nearby port to head to Venice

Marina di Venezia Campsite is a parc just a short ride from Venice. It has a superb pool complex with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, large kids’ pool and waterslides. The main piazza offers a supermarket, diving school, restaurants and even a hairdresser. From the beginning of June, the ‘animatore’ organises activities and evening entertainment for all the family. Venture to the back of the campsite to reach a wonderful, white sandy beach or explore the stunning woodland on two wheels. This is a great place to be as laid back or as energetic as you want to be.

Ca’Savio, Cavallino-Treporti, Adriatic

• Hop on a boat to explore the sights of Venice
• Hire bikes and explore this corner of Italy

Ca’Savio Campsite is a ferry trip away from Venice , this large, child-friendly holiday parc has two pool complexes – room enough for everyone to have a leisurely swim or a splash about.  There are lots of activities during high summer, and direct access to a beautiful, long sandy beach. The bars and restaurants of town are only a short stroll away, and if you want to explore further, simply hop on a bus or hire bikes. You can even take a boat trip to Venice!

Camping Village Fabulous Campsite, Rome, Tuscany, Central Italy & Elba

• Public transport on the doorstep to take you straight into Rome
• Close to the Ostia coast and its beautiful beaches

This Italian gem Camping Village Fabulous is 8km from the beautiful Ostia coast and surrounded by 70 acres of pine forest.   There is also public transport on the doorstep to take you straight into Rome.

Our Mini Travellers who visited Camping Fabulous loved it as a base for exploring Rome and said, “With a family I don’t think you could choose better, I could not imagine having to go back to a hotel room after a long day out and trying to occupy the young ones.  What Eurocamp offer you is the perfect mix of proximity to Rome and comfort for all.”

Playa Montroig Camping Resort, Miami Platja, Costa Dorada

Playa Montroig Campsite  is nestled in subtropical gardens alongside Costa Dorada’s sandy beaches. It’s also beautifully landscaped and is brimming with first-class facilities, like its stunning pool complex with four pools, including a lagoon-style heated pool and one with six waterslides. “One of my personally recommended ones for travelling without a car is Playa Montroig in Spain. I’ve worked on a few campsites and most, if not all, needed a car – except this one. It’s a big resort with loads to do on site and it’s located near Salou and Cambrills. You can rent bikes and use the easy and safe cycle routes into the towns for days out. You can easily get the train to Barcelona, Tarragona or head to Port Aventura for the theme park. It’s a fab campsite, there’s a bus stop just outside (or at least there was a few years ago) and taxi’s are a good price. Plus, Spain is probably one of the cheapest Eurocamp destinations when it comes to exploring and eating/drinking out.”
