Fancy a snow holiday but not sure if skiing is your thing? Don’t let that dissuade you from taking a trip to the mountains this winter; at Pierre & Vancances, skiing is just the tip of the iceberg!
This winter, Pierre and Vacances offers a vast variety of fun winter activities to enjoy solo or with friends and family. I’ve just returned from a trip to Morzine in the French Alps, and one of the attractions of the locations recommended by Pierre & Vacances is that even if you can’t or don’t want to ski every day, there are so many other wonderful things you can do to have fun.
At Pierre & Vacances you’ll find lots of Winter activity ideas. These include airboarding on next-generation sledges, snowbiking and dogsledding. There’s also archery, team snowball fights, exploring an Inuit camp with igloos (my personal favourite) and snowmobiling! Their mantra is that each day can offer a new experience and make every day unforgettable. The team can book everything for you on-site. All the info about what you might want to do and where can be found at your resort reception desk.
So where can you take advantage of this Make My Day offer?
You can take advantage of this offer at the following locations in the French Alps: Avoriaz , Val Thorens and Arc 1950. Here are some Winter activity ideas you can do in each location:
Avoriaz Winter Activity Ideas
Avoriaz was recently voted “best family resort” and the “snowiest resort in France” in 2013. The town sits right next to Morzine in the French Alps and is completely pedestrianized, which is a huge plus for families with children.
You can experience a winter wonderland in an Inuit Camp, explore igloos, try dog sledding and enjoy warm drinks with friends and family! Perfect for all age groups.
If your children are over 15 you can all try an electric snow bike, prices start at $40, or perhaps even take a shot at Biathlon which is an initiation to shooting with laser rifles!
For more information on the activities that are possible in Avoriaz, including Archery and Snowmoto, simply head over to Make My Days .
Val Thorens Winter Activity Ideas
Val Thorens is located in the Tarentaise Valley of the Savoy Alps and is the highest ski resort in Europe, at 2300 m altitude! This means that in reality, no matter which part of the season you go, there will always be snow! The village atmosphere is informal and friendly for an après ski with a wide variety of restaurants, clubs and a stack of other activities. Val Thorens is also car-free, so perfect for families.
In Val Thorens why not think about Make My Days Winter activity ideas such as:
- Dinner in a Yurt –Enjoy dinner in an authentic, privatised yurt, accessible by foot or snowmobile. Your kids from age 10 can join in with this activity.
- Dynafit – older teens would enjoy this exciting night hike in snow shoes and you can enjoy mulled wine and local specialties upon arrival. From age 14.
- E-Fat Bike – Like in Avoriaz, you can book an electric all-terrain snow bike. Available for ages 15 and above.
Arc 1950 Winter Activity Ideas
Arc 1950 is the ideal place for a family holiday in the French Alps. It’s full of character and the whole village is totally car free – similar to the other two resorts above. Paradiski is the world’s second largest ski area and overlooks Mont Blanc. This is particularly interesting for my 7 year old who is studying mountains at school and really wants to see it!
In Arc 1950 you can Make My Days by:
- Airboarding – which is body-boarding on snow. You’ll have a blast zooming down the slopes on a specially designed air inflated board. Suitable for adventurous 6-year-olds and above – I reckon my three would adore this!
- Snowball fights unlike any other. A team is organised in an arena strewn with obstacles. For ages 6 and above.
- Biathlon is a laser shooting game on the slopes. Available for those 12 and older.
Have you been on a winter activity holiday before and taken part in any of these Winter activity ideas? Which ones do you fancy?
